RSMAS Home

The RSOC system organization is shown in Figure 3.

The Project Director is responsible for the management of the system organization, and ensures that the organization, staffing, and scheduling for administrative and technical operations are provided. He is supported by administrative and technical staff to ensure the day-to-day supervision of scheduling, planning, resource allocation and budgeting, fiscal control and subcontract administration. As a team, the staff receives, processes and implements service community requests for data communications (within contract scope). An essential part of providing services includes proactive engagement with the service community to anticipate needs, solicit input, evaluate solutions, and coordinate services. To ensure continuous service, the team provides immediate notification and status updates to appropriate offices of any significant anomalies, operational difficulties or spacecraft emergencies.

In addition to the staff assigned to the RSOC program, there are technical support personnel that can be called upon for expertise to solve specific technical issues. The roles and responsibilities for each RSOC staff member are specified as follows:

Dean, RSMAS
  • Principal Investigator/Project Director
  • Responsible for contract execution and compliance
RSOC System Manager
  • Responsible for operation of RSOC
  • Designs and develops or purchases and maintains all equipment used for satellite communications
  • Interacts with all users of the RSOC
  • Provides technical assistance for problems associated with the RSOC system
  • Performs RF and satellite telemetry systems engineering functions
RSOC Assistant Manager
  • Provides backup expertise to RSOC Manager
  • Collects daily operational logs
  • Assists manager in design and maintenance of equipment
  • Provides customer service support to users
RSOC Technical Specialist
  • Provides backup expertise to RSOC Manager
  • Collects daily operational logs
  • Assists manager in design and maintenance of equipment
  • Provides customer service support to users
Software Specialist
  • Responsible for development and maintenance of all software including programs and scripts currently in use
  • Maintains and expands current web page for customer service
  • Provides user support regarding software
Flight Dynamics Engineer
  • Performs flight dynamics analysis and engineering functions
Network Engineer
  • Provides maintenance of existing network and troubleshooting as needed
Administrative/Technical Manager
  • Tracks all services being provided to ensure contract compliance
  • Facilitates interaction between RSMAS and RSOC
  • Prepares financial and narrative progress reports
  • Assists technical staff in equipment purchases
  • Evaluates progress made in context of annual work plan
